Understanding the times we live in

“When you see the fig tree blossoming, know for yourselves that Summer is near.” Luke 21:30

When you go back to the Christmas story, the various people in Luke etc were all waiting for the Messiah. The cultural climate of that time, there was a feeling that God would send a Messiah to overthrow the Roman rule. Spiritually sensitive people like Simeon, Anna were very sure that the Messiah would come in their lifetime. Holy Spirit was speaking to them. Godly girls like Mary across Israel, were praying that the Messiah would perhaps be born to them. Even Joseph was a godly guy waiting for the fulfilment of the prophecies. These young people were people who read their Bibles, studied it, and followed it.

The shepherds too were praying for a long time for the Messiah. If we read between the lines, the reason the Angel appeared to the Shepherds was that their Prayer was answered that night, so the Father sent the Angelic host, to convey that Jesus was born! It was not a random lottery for people in the night shift.

The wisemen too were studying the scriptures and sensitive to the happenings around, they were the astronomers and scientists of that day. They spent months in an arduous journey to come to Israel all the way from Persia. They were taking a great risk because of a whisper of the Holy Spirit. Neighbours and friends thought that they were fools and mad, but they knew where they were going! To meet God!

All the Christmas people, received Jesus as the answer to their prayer of years.

I want to ask you a few basic questions

How expectantly are you waiting for the Messiah today?

How eager is your hunger to see Jesus again, and upon the earth?

  1. God always comes to the people who are hungering for him
  2. This small select group of people, who are studying the scriptures daily, watching outside events, interpreting times are the ones who will usher him in a second time
  3. The mass will NOT get it. Because they are too busy in events, traditions and telling the same boring Christmas stories and plays. There is no understanding about the times we live in. It is the Laodecian church - full of technology, streaming services, daily youtube shorts, but the real voice of the Holy Spirit is missing. And lets be honest, nobody reads the Bible these days, but everybody thinks he is a great believer!
  4. It is a time of quiet preparation: the virgins are storing oil for their lamps. They are preparing for their wedding with Christ. What a privilege to be married to the King of kings! The bride’s eyes are focussed on the bridegroom!
  5. The fig tree is blossoming, Israel is now an independent nation for the first time in 2000 years. In 70 A.D it was destroyed as Lord Jesus said in the Olivet discourse (Matt 24). Jerusalem will be trodden down by the gentiles, until the times of the gentiles are fulfilled (Lk 21:24). In 1948 Israel became an independent nation. We have crossed that Bridge. So we are in the last leg before Christ’s return. These are the END TIMES!
  6. Approximately 30% of the Bible is yet to be fulfilled. Isn’t it exciting that so much is still on the Table! You and I have roles to play in the unfolding Bible prophecy and world events! What we do, will usher in the Messiah a second time! It is NOT an AUTOMATIC event! God is recruiting people for Christ’s Second coming! The movie auditions are going on for various roles!
  7. World events are going to be decided by simple people playing their parts. Remember Mary, Joseph, Ol Zach, Aunty Elizabeth, shepherds were just normal people. They were very ordinary folks! None of them were famous like Herod or the prophets etc! John the Baptist was not even a preacher in Jerusalem or any town! He was out in the wilderness. In fact the Holy Spirit was so strong upon him, that people flocked to him from the cities.

Just play your PART faithfully! Here are a few practical tips in this journey.

  • Spend time in the scriptures about Christ’s return and the Millennial Kingdom etc. Get acquainted with Revelation, Daniel, Prophets – Isaiah, Ezekiel, Joel, etc. As I said, about 30% of the Bible is yet to be fulfilled. We are living in VERY EXCITING times. Don’t focus so much on building wealth, Real estate and all that. Try to work for Eternity!
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the end time events to you. There are many markers and events that have to happen. Some are happening all around us! Develop your own study and understanding of these events. Read books about that. Discuss it with other people and grow in knowledge!
  • Have seasons of Preaching and praying about the Lord’s Return in your Churches etc. Pray the scriptures about Jesus Return. I pray and declare his Return everyday!
  • Sing NEW songs about the Lord’s Return. I sing these type of songs at home.

Hark the Herald angels sing

Glory to the soon returning King

Peace on earth and mercy mild

God and sinners reconciled;

Joyful all ye nations rise

Join the triumph of Calvary,

With angelic host proclaim

Jesus is returning to the earth

Hark the herald believers sing

Glory to the soon returning King.

Look up! for your redemption draweth near!
