Resurrection in our lives

This is a faithful saying: for if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. 2 Tim 2:11

Resurrection is a theme that should be pondered upon for a few days. Most of us hear one Sermon on Easter Sunday and that is it. But it is worth studying in depth for a few weeks, so that the Real Resurrection power of Christ can operate in us.

Christ is risen! Yes He is risen indeed! And we all have been to the empty tomb. That’s why we believe and are living witnesses of those events. And Jesus is meeting us daily on the roads of Emmaus in Bangalore, Mumbai, New York, Chicago, Adelaide, Singapore, Toronto and various other cities.

Let us look at a few death to resurrection kinda events in the Bible, so that we can see God's Resurrection power at work in its myriad forms.

Moses being thrown in the Nile: In Exodus 2, a little baby was born to two Hebrew parents Amram and Jochebed. But Pharaoh decreed that all Jewish male babies should be killed and only the girl child allowed to survive. These were a godly couple, reading the scriptures and walking in faith. So for three months they hid the baby and protected it. Finally when the cries were louder, they prayed and surrendered him to God and put him in a little boat and let him into the Nile river. Death was certain and only a few moments away, but the Hand of the Lord intervened and Pharaoh’s daughter comes to swim in the River Nile just then and sees the baby. She has compassion on the crying baby and decides to adopt him, so that he wouldn’t die. She then calls his mom and makes an arrangement to rear him up. Absolute DEATH to RESURRECTION and Exaltation. Isn’t this wonderful; how the Resurrection power of Christ operated here? We all know the story from then on.

Joseph is cast into a prison in Egypt (Genesis 39, 40). All hope for life, dreams, family everything gone. Yet the Lord was with him (Gen 39:21) and Joseph begins to even minister to his fellow prisoners. He didn’t murmur or complain. Suddenly one day, he is called to the Palace. In an hour, the Holy Spirit takes him and puts him in front of Pharaoh. Joseph the Prisoner becomes Joseph the Hon'ble Prime Minister of Egypt. God short circuits the entire Egyptian royal court and lineage and makes Joseph in charge of the greatest nation of that time. This is one of wildest miracles in the Bible. Jesus was a corpse buried outside Jerusalem in a friends tomb. All was dark and gloomy. But on the third day, God raises him up and seats him at his right hand in Heaven.

Resurrection of a family: Ruth was a widow, but she believed in Jehovah the God of Israel. She came penniless to her in-laws country in Bethlehem. She goes out to gather some corn in a harvested field. Holy Spirit gently nudges her into Boaz’s field and the rest is a Hollywood romance blockbuster. She soon falls in love with the estate owner, a godly man. From her lineage comes David and finally the Lord Jesus. From nothing, God recreated everything for her- a family, fields, honour and lineage in Christ

Resurrection of a community: On Easter morning the Risen Lord began to appear to various people. Mary Magdalene, other women, Peter etc. By mid morning the news had spread. That evening he takes the initiative and meet the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Later that night he meets all the disciples at their dinner table. From morning to evening, the mood changed from funeral spices for a corpse, to Victory and Life and Hope. The Lord resurrected an entire community, isn’t that beautiful. By eventide, all of his friends and followers were lit with the lamp of Resurrection. They tasted of it first hand. I can imagine the shock and awe! As we read those passages, we too taste of the same Risen Jesus. But a cursory reading won’t do, dig deep and you’ll find the treasure. Christ always wants to lift up the entire community, and make it a living example of his power

And we are supposed to tell others the story, so that they too can be saved! People are being tossed about without hope, will AI take my job, will the war end, will the markets crash, how will I feed my family etc etc. Christ has triumphed over all these situations and offers us Salvation - forgiveness of sins and Eternal life in Heaven. In addition he has promised to meet our needs, take care of us, and that includes livelihoods, breakthroughs, Peace in our families, healing and strength and protection. Isn’t that amazing, what’s on offer? How can you refuse?

I have been personally blest, these past few weeks as I meditated on the Resurrection power of Christ. In many areas of my life, I see the green shoots and his touch. As you read the scriptures, I pray that the Resurrection power of Christ will flow into your lives too.

“Surely I will cause breath to enter into you and you shall live” – Ezekiel 37:5

Glory to the crucified, risen Jesus!
