Pray for Israel

“The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob” And so as it is written, all Israel will be saved. Romans 11: 26

Israel is at war with Iran, since June 13th, It is called “Operation Rising Lion”, taken from Numbers 23:24. It is time to pray for Israel. Romans 9,10,11 are very important Chapters to understand God’s plan for Israel. Read and pray for them.

Here is some context for us to pray meaningfully.

The whole of the Bible plays out in Israel and thereabouts. The book was given to the Jews. All authors from Genesis to Revelation are Jews but for Dr.Luke. “To them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the sacrifices, the promises and Christ.” (Romans 9:4)

Israel is like the sets in which the Biblical drama played out. The people, the Hebrew language, their festivals, customs, food and music are important for us to make proper sense of the Bible. Add to it the historical monuments, Wailing wall, Temple Mount, Tombs of David, Tombs of the Patriarchs, Prophets, Mount of Olives, Jerusalem, Bethany, Bethlehem, the various cities, Jordan river, Sea of Galilee etc is what lends life to the Bible.

Jesus was a Jew, he lived there, ran a carpentry business there for years, taught his disciples there, did miracles there. And then, Jerusalem was where he was crucified, and also Resurrected. The gospel waters flowed from there. Israelis today are the descendants of the same prophets, the disciples and the early Church. In fact there is no other nation, that is as critical to understanding our Salvation as Israel is. That is why the devil continually attacks Israel.

And secondly, Jesus is going to come back to this very land as King and rule over all the nations of the earth. This is called the Millennial Kingdom and is the real hope of all Christians. The Jews too believe that the Messiah would come, but they have stumbled at the stumbling block – accepting Jesus as the Messiah (Rom 9:33).

Here are a few points to pray:

Pray for safety of people in Israel. They are continually living daily in the threat of missiles. Iran regime doesn’t spare apartments, even Hospitals. Imagine having to go to a bomb shelter every other day in the night, even sometimes during the day. It takes 15 minutes for a missile fired from Iran to land, so in minutes the alarms have to go off and you need to run into an underground bomb shelter. Imagine the plight of elderly, aged, babies, weak people.

Most importantly pray for the Salvation of Jews, that through these turbulent times, people would find rest in Jesus and his Salvation. Only he can give Peace amidst the storm. (Messianic believers are <1% in Israel). When Jesus comes back to the earth, all Israel will be saved (Rom 11:26), but for now our job is to pray that many Jews will be saved.

That the Jewish rabbis would find Jesus as they search the scriptures. All their Orthodox religion is empty, powerless and just rhetoric and tassels and black hats.

Pray that the existential threat from Iran to be removed. And that the Uranium enrichment facilities would be bombarded and removed permanently. Also for the regime to either be neutralized or removed. Even Iranians need stability in their homes and society.

There is also continual heckling of Netanyahu (and the Government), by Liberals who want to overthrow him. This is the Deep state and does not care about the Jewish state. That their influence and tactics would be gone

Pray for the Anti-semitism across the world to subside. I am aghast at the Jew-hatred in US universities, and Western societies. People need to know the truth.

There is no democracy in all of Middle-east – Saudi, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Syria the list is endless. That democracy would come to that region. Arab spring was brief and not of much effect.

Freedom for the gospel to be preached inside Israel. That ministries like One-for-Israel, and others would thrive and be able to reach out to the Jews. That the Messianics (Jewish Christians) would not be persecuted. Pray also for the Arabs in Israel to know Jesus and be saved

Pray that many in the IDF would know Jesus. That Holy spirit will give wisdom to the General and pilots and soldiers. That deaths would be few. (IDF = Israeli Defence Forces). Every family has someone or the other fighting on the front lines. Either a husband or dad or sister is there in the IDF. Normal life has been disrupted for about two years now

Pray also that many Muslims in the Middle-east will come to know Jesus as their Saviour. We need ministries that will bridge out to them with also knowledge of their scriptures and answers to their questions. We all know that there is a big revival going on in Iran last few years. Many have turned to Jesus. Pray for that nation too that it will find Peace and stability.

Our prayers are paving the way for the Return of Jesus. Israel turning back to Christ is one of the biggest signs before the Return of Jesus. When you see the fig tree blossom and all the other trees, know that my Return is near, It is at the very doors. (Mk 13:28, Lk 21).

As apostle Paul said if the rejection by Israel meant reconciling of the world (to God), what will their acceptance be, but LIFE FROM THE DEAD (Rom 11:15). That is when you will see the FULLNESS of GOD upon the earth and in your life.

Lastly, I leave you with a very well-kept secret, if you start genuinely praying for Israel, God will take care of many of your other prayer points.
