Thus says the Lord God: “I will take a tender twig from the topmost and plant it on the mountain height of Israel; and it will bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a majestic cedar. Under it will dwell birds of every sort; in the shadow of its branches they will dwell.” Ezekiel 17: 22-23 (Paraphrased)

Ezekiel is a fascinating book. It is full of the Holy Spirit. If you haven’t read it in a while, please do. The book is a series of visions, prophecies and messages, a bit like Revelation and Daniel. The first half of the book deals with Ezekiel’s commissioning and the message – a warning to Jerusalem of the impending conquest by Nebuchadnezzar and the captivity. Latter half is about Restoration, regathering of Israel back in the land (Ez 36) and Outpouring of the Holy Spirit( Ez 37, 47) and last wars of Israel before Jesus Returns (Ez 38, 39) and a New Temple (40 to 48) where the Lord dwells.

Sometimes we shy away from prophetic books, complicated passages and avoid them altogether, and this is what the Lord told me one day. If you grapple with a complicated piece of scripture and spend time to understand it, then God gives you the mercy to come out of complicated situations. What a Blessing! So read those difficult books, intricate prophecies, if you want a Big Blessing. Many folks saunter about in a few Psalms, or Pauline letters etc. Time to get into the vastness of Christ in the other books.

In the first chapter, Ezekiel sees Jesus, as the Son of man seated on the throne in Heaven, being worshipped by the four living creatures. Christ is being adored and worshipped by Heaven. The heavenly host serves him. Ezekiel also falls down and Worships Jesus. What a way to begin a book and a ministry! He sees Jesus as the Glory of the LORD. As John says, we beheld his glory as the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. And from his fullness, we received grace upon grace (John 1:14-16).

Healing testimony: After the Heavenly throne room vision, Chapter 2 begins thus. And He said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak to you.” Then the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me, and set me on my feet (2:1). When I was reading this, I was a bit dull, feeling weak, pulled down etc. But as I read this verse, the Holy Spirit came upon me, and in a few minutes, I changed, went to the gymn, ran a few kilometres and came back. Glory to Jesus. One touch of God is all we need, I encourage you to read the Bible daily and spend time with the Lord.

Tasks from the Lord: In chapter 3, Ezekiel is commissioned as a watchman (3:16). His task was to warn them of the impending judgement and to repent. Ezekiel had his task cut out and he did it well. Today, 2500 years later, we are being blest, because he obeyed the Lord then. What about you?

Has the Lord given you any task or project lately? Say in the last 3-4 weeks or so? How are you doing on that? I am in the middle of one such mini-project. And I tell you, the Holy Spirit will continually remind me till all those tasks are finished. Which Jesus project are you on lately? Keep at it, till you finish. And do it cheerfully! I tell you there is a reward waiting for you at the end!!

Christ the branch: Fast forward to Chapter 17. It is a parable about Israel’s political situation. Nebuchadnezzar comes and defeats Jehoiaichin and takes him to Babylon as captive. He then installs Zedekiah under oath and tribute and goes back. But then the people start leaning towards Egypt and the Lord rebukes them for leaning in the wrong direction for help. Today what false hopes are you leaning on?

In the midst of this gloomy scenario, the Holy Spirit introduces Christ. Jesus makes a sudden appearance in the movie. The Father says, I will take Christ the tender twig and plant him in Israel. He will rule and reign. And all birds (meaning people) will dwell under his shadow. He will care for them, provision, protection, blessing etc. And many will be saved and dwell on his branches.

Friend, what problems are you grappling with today? I assure you, Jesus is the solution for these issues. Tell them to Jesus.

Christ is coming, and that is the Hope for us. Not in the Millennial Kingdom, but today. I pray that he will come to your situation today.
